Before this turns into a blog about all the fancy places I like to eat, I must now rave about one of my most favourite places to eat in Tokyo. This little stall is located near the west entrance of Shinjuku station and is in a little alleyway some know as Memory Lane. Tourists tend to steer clear as no one speaks English and there are no (or few) English menus.
My favourite place is a little soba stall. You don't go here to sit for hours; you stand in line, sit when a seat is free (this is rare, regardless of whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner time), order, eat, and leave. But it is worth every precious second. Steaming bowls of soba noodles in broth are served to your specifications (again, if you can't speak Japanese, you can resort to pointing to the elements of the dish you want or to a plate of a nearby diner).
In my humble opinion, the best combination is soba noodles, broth, a soft boiled egg, nori (seaweed), and tempura vegetables. This delicious bowl of goodness costs about 300 yen (£2).
